About laser hair removal procedure

The demand for safe, long-lasting, and effective hair reduction for aesthetic as well as medical indications is on the rise. A variety of options for hair removal are available, such as epilation by plucking or waxing, depilation by shaving, chemical depilatories, electrolysis, eflornithine cream, and laser and intense pulsed light (IPL) systems. A variety of lasers and IPL systems are available and are the most effective options for long-term hair reduction. The mechanism of action of these laser systems is targeting the melanin in the hair shaft, follicular epithelium, and hair matrix by emitting light with wavelengths ranging from 600 to 900 nanometers (nm) because those wavelengths are selectively absorbed by melanin.

At Aesthetic Academy Asia, we provide an International Aesthetic Certification programme and also Advanced Online Aesthetic Courses. Our team of Certified doctors and trainers, impart comprehensive clinical knowledge and hands-on training to Doctors, Dentists, Nurses, Aestheticians, and Spa Owners in the field of Aesthetic medicine. The training modules are different between Medical Doctors and non-medical personnel. Aesthetic Academy Asia is based in Malaysia and has students from the Philippines, Myanmar, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, and other parts of Asia. Assoc. Prof Dr. Morthy is the lead trainer and course director for the region. He is also the medical director of Global Aesthetic (http://www.globalaesthetic.com/) which offers advanced Aesthetic medical procedures. Aesthetic Academy Asia with the insignia of “Be Certified, Be Recognized” has always stressed the importance of structured Aesthetic medical education with international recognition for those opting for a career in Aesthetic Medicine. In today’s article, we will broach the subject of lasers to determine which treatment is the best for hair removal under the advanced Aesthetic courses in lasers, along with the importance of training.

How do Laser Hair Removal Work?

The objective of the laser hair removal treatment is for the laser energy to be transmitted through the shaft of the hair and explode the hair bulb, which will then eventually destroy the germ cells. You will be able to achieve permanent hair removal only once the germ cells are destroyed. It is interesting to note that the definition of permanent hair removal is not actually permanent. Permanence by definition is 1 hair cycle which is from anagen to catagen and telogen.

The physician will have to assess the properties of hair and the properties of the skin. Laser hair removal works best in dark-colored, terminal hair which is in the anagen phase, and the results are better on fair skin. In terms of the laser device, the physician will have to select a wavelength ranging from 600 nanometers to 900 nanometers. It is better to use a longer wavelength such as 810 nanometers of a diode laser for laser hair removal on darker skin types when compared to a 694 nanometer Ruby laser.

Since the aim is to destroy the germ cells, clients should avoid tweezing, plucking, or waxing the hair during a laser hair removal program.

What Are The Best Laser Devices For Hair Removal?

There are several devices in the market for laser hair removal. However, the basic fundamentals lie in two principles which are selective photothermolysis and homogeneous photo thermolysis. Lasers such as Ruby, Alexandrite, and Diode with wavelengths of 694 nm, 755 nm, and 810 nm, respectively, rely on principles of selective photothermolysis while the Nd YAG laser of 1064 nm relies on the principle of homogeneous photo thermolysis. Some of the unique features of laser hair mobile devices are:

  • The Diode 810 nm laser is considered to be the gold standard for hair removal.

  • Longer wavelength lasers are safer for darker skin types.

  • The NdYAG 1064 nanometer which works on the principles of homogeneous photothermolysis is the safest for darker skin types.

Why is training important?

Education in laser treatments is very important. It is important for the aesthetic practitioners to be well trained in terms of the principle of laser, types of laser, laser techniques, depth of laser penetration, and laser-tissue interaction so that they are able to properly administer the laser treatment. Complications of laser include thermal burns which can be so intense to a point it may cause discoloration of the skin, scarring, infection, reactivation of herpes simplex infections, and even facial disfigurement. Thus, proper education is very important in order to not only avoid but also to teach them to manage these complications.

At Aesthetic Academy Asia, the Aesthetic Doctors & Dentists, Aesthetic Nurses, Aestheticians, & Spa Owners are intensively trained in Advanced Laser Courses, which includes theory as well as clinical skills under our International Aesthetic Certification. Online Aesthetic Certification programs are also available for international students.

Similarly, Aesthetic nurses, aestheticians, and spa owners are also trained to understand the basic principles of lasers under our cosmetology certification programme in laser

The advanced aesthetic courses in the laser curriculum include:

  • What are the types of lasers?

  • What are the layers of the skin?

  • What are the principles of lasers?

  • What is laser-tissue interaction?

  • How do lasers work?

  • What are laser complications?

  • How to avoid laser complications?
