ABOUT EYELID LIFT

About Eyelid Lift

In a recent article, we discussed about PDO Thread Lift For Dark Under-Eye Hollows. In today’s article, we will help to educate you further about eyelid lift surgery that helps to restore an overall natural, youthful, and rejuvenated appearance.

Eyelid Lift Surgery Procedure

The eye is an important component of facial aesthetics and the eyelids are the thinnest, most delicate skin on the human body.  Signs of aging tend to appear around the eyes earlier than other areas. sagging and drooping occur, affecting facial expressions. Blepharoplasty, more commonly known as eyelid lift surgery, helps correct tired-looking eyes, sagged skin, droopy eyelids, or circles around the eyes. Pre-operative patient evaluation for eyelid lift surgery should include assessing medical and ophthalmologic history such as chronic systemic diseases, current medications, trauma, glaucoma, allergic reactions, excess tearing, and dry eyes, if any. In addition to a complete eye examination, the evaluation of the periorbital area should consider skin quality and quantity, underlying three-dimensional soft-tissue contours, and the bony skeletal support around the eye socket.

Eyelid lift surgery can be performed with local or general anesthesia depending  on the surgical plan and  preferences. Simple upper or lower eyelid surgeries where only skin or fat is excised can be performed under local anesthesia. For more invasive procedures like lower eyelid surgery combined with fat repositioning, mid-face augmentation, or brow lift may require intravenous sedation or general anesthesia.

Upper Eyelid Surgery

Sagging, wrinkled skin on the upper eyelids can lead to a constant unhappy expression or obscure the upper eyelashes due to the loss of elasticity and support in the skin. A fold of excess upper eyelid skin can cause superolateral visual field obstruction as well. Upper eyelid surgery helps to remove the excess skin by making an incision in the natural crease above the eye and restoring a naturally youthful shape to the eyelids.

Lower Eyelid Surgery

Eyebags mainly occur because of excessive skin and accumulation of herniated fat. Lower eyelid fat becomes more noticeable in upgaze and less noticeable in downgaze.

Incisions are made on the outer edge of the lower eyelid for lower eyelid surgery, just  underneath the eyelashes or inside the eyelid, and excess fat is removed or repositioned to create a smooth, natural contour beneath the eyelid. Depending on the patient, excess, sagging skin below the lower eyelid area is  can be removed or the muscle  can be tightened to  achieve the most  effective and natural results.

brow lift and facelift procedures can be done along with eyelid lift for an overall facial rejuvenation.

Risks of Eyelid Lift Surgery

Eyelid lift surgery procedures should be performed under certified aesthetic practitioners with specialized training. Thorough knowledge and adaptability to individual patients’ needs is crucial as improper surgery techniques can lead to infection and bleeding, dryness and irritation, difficulty closing the eyes, scarring, injury to eye muscles, skin discoloration, and even loss of eyesight.

No strenuous exercise should be done for at least up to 4 weeks after eyelid surgery because a sudden increase in blood pressure may aggravate the inflammation.

Topical Ointment

Patients are also advised to apply topical ciprofloxacin ophthalmic ointment for 2 weeks to the incision sites.

Patients  should protect their eyes from the sun and wind. Staying at home or wearing dark sunglasses with frames that provide plenty of coverage are advised.
